In July Dryad released its annual report for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. It was in many ways a watershed year for the organization. The fiscal year ending in June 2025 saw Dryad’s evolution into a service organization, related shifts in business model, value proposition, and fee structure, and an ongoing commensurate rise in data submissions, wrote board chair Andrew Beckerman, in his introduction.

Dryad’s service meets the demands of modern data availability policies and reporting standards. Robust infrastructure, rigorous quality checks, and hands-on personal support from experienced data curators help researchers meet rising data sharing and reporting requirements quickly and easily. For the publishers, societies, and institutions who choose to partner with us to sponsor data publication for their researchers, Dryad simplifies compliance, streamlines workflows, and saves the time, effort, and expense of maintaining individual repositories.

Over the course of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, we further enhanced our service offering with the launch of our new partner program, a freshly redesigned intuitive data submission system, a new partner admin dashboard, and expanded system integrations that help embed data sharing into researchers’ existing communications processes.

Over the course of a busy year, the Dryad data pool grew to include 65,786 published datasets made up of over 50 million files and 3,800 different file types. That data represents the work of more than 287,000 researchers across 106,950 institutions, 1,295 journals, and 6,445 funders.

Dryad’s continued growth

Dryad’s view of data publishing focuses on meeting researchers where they are and creating pathways to engage with data sharing by leveraging familiar systems and signals, said Dryad Executive Director Jennifer Gibson in her summary reflecting on progress in 2025. That has meant listening to the community, understanding their values, and adapting to meet their needs — and growing as a result.

With the introduction of Dryad’s new partner program and business model, the organization is pioneering an approach to open data publishing that is shaped, valued, and sustained by community stakeholders.
