New at Dryad: Dan Edwards appointed Head of Data Publishing

We’re excited to welcome a new member to our team: Head of Data Publishing, Dan Edwards.

This newly conceived role builds on Dryad’s 18 years of experience curating and openly publishing research data, as well as our unique position in research communication, and helps prepare us to navigate another exciting new era in data sharing. As Head of Data Publishing, Dan will spearhead Dryad’s efforts to operationalize our mission to advance the open availability and routine reuse of research data. Day-to-day, that includes leading Dryad’s curation team in optimizing workflows, supporting data standards, and delivering best-in-class author support.

An enthusiastic supporter of open science, Dan believes passionately that curated, published, and preserved open datasets are vitally important to maintaining trust in research, and that trust in the integrity of research data in turn contributes to work that improves lives and benefits society.

“I am hugely excited by the prospect of working with and learning from a group of like-minded individuals, each of whom contribute different experiences and backgrounds to the benefit of an international team,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating both with these colleagues and our broader partners to ensure the timely and accessible publication of curated, trusted data, and to exploring further innovative ways in which we can serve our communities.”

“We’re so pleased to welcome Dan to the Dryad fold. With veteran experience in publishing and management, Dan will strengthen Dryad further as we continue to grow with the scope and volume of data that we handle, and adjust to meet the changing needs of research,” said Jennifer Gibson, Dryad’s Executive Director.

Dan has a strong background as a senior scholarly communications professional and brings to his new role a wealth of experience in science journal publishing, research integrity, and team leadership — including experience in editorial services for KGL, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, RCVS Knowledge, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Cambridge University Press, and more. He specializes in bringing together teams and skilled professionals, and coaching them to success. Dan also volunteers as an STM mentor. In his off hours he enjoys photography, learning new languages, and travel.
