As a member-driven non-profit, Dryad collaborates with an international network of partners to sustain our work furthering the open sharing and reuse of research data.

Maria is an open science advocate who enjoys working collaboratively with researchers and other stakeholders in scholarly communication to drive positive change. Maria joins Dryad after more than ten years in academic publishing, primarily at the not-for-profit and open-access journal eLife, where she was Head of Journal Development and worked closely with scientists,
research organizations and funding agencies in the biomedical and life sciences space in initiatives to drive growth, foster community engagement and promote best practices in peer review and scientific publishing. Maria has been an active member of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE) for a number of years, including serving as chair for the European Conference Planning Committee (2018-2020).
“Dryad’s purpose, mission and core values have always resonated with me, so it is really a privilege to now be part of a team that is working tirelessly to give research data the attention and prominence that a key object for the understanding and advancement of science deserves,” Maria says. “The scholarly communication landscape is changing rapidly, and recent developments such as the pandemic have really showcased not only the importance of curating and hosting data, but also of a robust infrastructure for its long-term preservation, dissemination and reuse. The scientific enterprise creates knowledge everyday. I hope I will be able to contribute to expanding the group of organizations and individuals worldwide accessing and benefiting from it.”
Dryad’s Executive Director, Jen Gibson says, “Maria’s talent, experience, and commitment to open research make her a fitting addition to our incredible team. I’m excited to introduce her to all of our current and prospective partners to talk about forging the future of data publishing.”
